President Raila! Why not?

So it happened, Treason isn’t a thing in Kenya anymore! The right Honourable Raila Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya is our newest President of the People! Without consultation, in broad daylight, infront of scores of his avid supporters (Kenyans, one would say hundreds of thousands) effective 30th day of January (day of our Lord)

To his own right towers one Miguna Miguna, once close ally and adviser to The new PPOK (People’s President Of Kenya) turned foe over claims of cowardice and hypocrisy from the Right honourable, now newly turned ally just in time to complete the swearing in ensemble.

To his Left witness number one, senior counsel James Orengo, the law genius who led the heavy artillery assault against the August 8th election, ensuring an annulment of the election (the gods of history are with this one) he watches on, nodding his approval and invoking a sense of legal correctness on the whole organization.

The crowd surges, ecstatic, under the scorching sun they pulse with anticipation at the delayed arrival of BABA! As promised time and again the masses hadn’t given up faith. The police withdrawal from the grounds caused raised eyebrows but didn’t deter the crowds from accessing the historic grounds and awaiting for PPOK Raila.

An event that has been held in awe and mad respect since our independence was done within 10 minutes, without the fanfare common with such activities. Missing in action was the running mate Kalonzo Musyoka, reasons to follow later. Musalia Mudavadi, creator of NASA outfit, reasons to follow afterwards. Moses Wetangula, Senator and NASA principle, reason to follow up later.

As the country cringed to see what retaliation the government had up their sleeves to stop the oathing, certain that the government of the day cannot let a mockery of such proportion. Faith that whatever mediocrity we suffer from would never allow such an activity to go unchecked, that we shall never have a discussion of two Presidents in existence in Kenya!

But it did!

Raila Amolo Odinga carried the day by announcing himself the People’s President in Kenya, armed with a green bible, distinguished hat and none of his family members in sight.

My input tonight is neither for nor against.

WHY NOT? We seem to have let the country run on auto, with no courtesy of greasing the wheels!

We have push the country forward for the enrichment and glory of a few individuals. We have partaken of loans on loans, funded grand projects for the betterment of a few individuals. We have let our streets run by the law of the jungle, we snatch what we can and run, hide, resurface when we need more. We have let our leadership positions reduce to being gifts/token to those few Kenyans who would cut-throats, push tribal agendas, steal mightily, eat ravenously.

Why then should Raila Amolo Odinga take this opportunity at this time of ‘crazy-reign-supreme’ and lay claim to the highest office in the land? If an MCA would run a mock of his office and benefit himself and cronies why wouldn’t whoever wants to, to do exactly that??

We live in a crazy country, everyone for himself is no longer an itch we need to scratch it has become a cancer we cannot live without, a way of life so intrinsically embedded that our neighboring countries notice that of us as a first!

The police would only pursue a criminal if they have personally been greased of a few thousands, how else are they to dedicate hours maybe days to pursuing an individual among forty million Kenyans?

The City Council would be efficient in collecting parking fees and license fees but would be lost when it comes to what to do with the few dustbins in the city center, hawkers along the busy streets and petty muggings across the board. No one simply cares for it.

If performance would evade even the simplest of job descriptions in the public service, how much would it escape the more complex issues in our nation such as treason claims, election claims, political assassinations and taming the rich and wealthy? So now we are once again in limbo wondering what cards the government has been dealt what cards it wants to place on the table and which cards either side is holding close to their chest.

They say the Voice of The People, the Voice of God! And now that ‘hundreds of Thousands converged in Uhuru Park and witnessed the swearing in of Raila Odinga as The People’s President, agreed, and endorsed it, to those individuals for all effects and purposes they have a President. The government of the day failed in curbing this vice and isn’t swift enough to curb its spread. Maybe the crime/irregularity /oathing baffles even the top hierarchy of our nation.

As we seat back and laugh at the dilemma of the government of the day, or we giggle at their efforts to normalise the happening of a few days, even as we mock the effort and refuse to adapt according to our duties as citizens. Let’s not forget that everytime we don’t make a better Kenya we hit at the very fabrique that keeps us safe and warm, and I can assure you it has been dealt one too many good ones.

Country should be loved and served not eaten away. It should be built not broken into as many pieces as would satiate those who have managed to fight others around to a pulp. The nation should have heros, those who would sacrifice to save the nation, country should have die-hard visionaries, those who would push a dream into reality, with a clarity of mind and action, those steadfast enough to stand the test of time, stand against corrupt forces within and without. We seem to lack this particular set of traits, discouraging any sane, gifted and equipped party from participating in national politics and leadership. What we obviously end up with is a ruling class miles behind the electorate, out of touch doesn’t begin to scratch the surface.

Caution to all patriots.
