New Wave of Politics

So we are fighting tribalism as a nation. Hurtling down, head-first, with mo reas view mirror to peek into the past destruction left in our wake. Sadder still is that we seen myopic in our efforts to achieve tribal utopia. Impending crush? A confluence of tribal interests and regional powers. Inevitable if history is anything to go by.

Pardon the dark cloud I drew above you, this fine day in Nairobi but we have got to get to an intellectual hand shake long before we meet and make an actual agreement.

After an eventful political clash of 2017,one that rendered the whole year unfruitful and disastrous to many a businesses; not mentioning the accompanying deaths that saw it to its bitter completion : we are now treated to a political realignment that doesn’t seem to bear hindsight.

Our political class seems to be consumed by a self-preservation and self perpetuation need, having forgotten the plight of their electorates, those they are sworn to represent. It is a pity that we would leap from an election, dent our economy, kill our populace, widen the rift between communities and right after that we embark on making next elections’ deals and handshakes. I wonder what the end game is for Kenyans.

A simple look into our nation’s working, one would shy away from the ever widening gap of the poor and rich, recently a contact on twitter best described it as

‘50,000 kshs emergency away from poverty…..’

On African News, the nation of Niger have built an enviable state of the art national General hospital that pales all of Africa’s hospitals, better still is the government’s cancellation of government-sponsored medical tourism to their state officers.

Meanwhile one of our more popular Governors sends out a statement “my next assistant Governor will come from the Kikuyu Community, as payment for their loyalty to me….”

Dumbfounded by this publication I had to reread the whole statement. How can we be talking about the bad effects of tribalism and tribal alliances/supremacy yet the governor of our central administrative county would unashamedly let a statement like that out?

Are we courting tribalism for power?

Are we truly this tribal?

Is the tail wagging the dog?

The other day I passed by some of the trees in the middle of our capital, they had been corrugated!! I am not an agricultural expert but doesn’t that harm the tree, soil bacteria, also how will the water get to the trees??

Who planned this? All in the name of getting ad revenue?

So entrenched is our tribalism that any case is argued on the merit of its benefits or detriment to a certain tribe…

Miguna’s deportation….

The burning of a charcoal lorry in Kitui…..

Who will run for Presidency come 2022…

We have forgotten the most fundamental rule to greatness; working with others!

As we have made it a norm in Kenya, we are awaiting our ‘political leaders’ to chart our path ahead, to decide which community we befriend or which we hack to death. Blind to the fact that after the period of elections the same politicians will shake hands not blows & go out together for lavish lunches and dinners.

So as we watch our political class decide who will run for what seat, all the while their time, energy and resources are dedicated to this very end; their supremacy. Using all means, tribal or otherwise to meet their ends. Our dear tribal leaders, aka Political leaders, don’t care for our wellbeing.

Is this really our reality.?

Is this what you want?
