Crazy Kenya
“My son, do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight, preserve sound judgment and discretion; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck.”
(Proverbs 3:21-22, NIV)
Today’s word, broadcasted via WhatsApp by a dear friend, bless her soul! At a time when most people are either forwarding jokes/nudes of clap backs, she has maintained her mission. Swiftly forward to my bit though, I seek to apply the holy word onto a nation claiming a 90% Christian following.
If the recent infamous words of one of our prominent politicians & governors is to go by there seems to be a movement popularising stupidity and folly within our nation. Dissecting the issue on riparian lands that have been grabbed, allocated, sold, resold and developed by complicit or innocent developers, the fact still remains that they are riparian lands.
One would seem rude, out of place or even crazy for asming the obvious, “didn’t the developers know that the land on which their property stood was set aside for a river, road expansion etc??”
“isn’t it commonplace to do a thorough search of the land you are interested in before actually purchasing it??”
Why would we think the buyer of the land didn’t know potential consequences of buying land set apart as a water way/swamp? Why is this even a question? I have been in some of these multi-million companies and the bureaucracy and detail that is committed to deciding a logo/letterhead or an office design is staggering, why would we then turn to claim that such a company purchased land without confirming all details about the same. To add salt to injury one of our leading Governors comes up with assertions that humiliate our collective intelligence more than infuriates us and its normal.
Post-Trump era this is! Where the truth doesn’t matter; to contextualise ‘Wisdom and understanding’ have been let out of sight,’ sound judgment & discretion’ out with it! So now we sit back and face a bold new world eager to see what lack of life would look like. Innocent of the past actions and consequences.
Whether we want to believe it or not, whether we actually are seeing this or not, the reality isn’t being edited nor is it evaporating it simply is, despite protracted actors’ actions to deny facts. The job now seems to be how to give relevance to the truth as opposed to a noisy, loud liar.
Corruption! Is simply the most unifying villain of our story as a country. Decades of attempts to clean shelf, we have finally found the Deputy Chief Justice culpable and deserving of a case. Congrats to the, DPP in delivering the fat cow. The following weeks see a 34-member bench rise to defend the deputy president of the Judiciary arguing that her position allows her certain privileges that cannot be alienated even by a court process :her freedom. Almost immune to corruption case thanks to the defence she mounted ;most notable of her legal team are the infamous NASA elite leg by Kalonzo Musyoka, Senior counsel James Orengo etc.
Are we now to believe that Kalonzo is acting in the best interest of our nation as he pledged during the campaigns to become 2nd in command of Kenya? That now Orengo & crew would turn up to defend a crooked judge after crying foul of the rampant corruption in our nation. Is all this a way for their individual law firms to pay their bills?
So when the fuel prices soar to pay for a loan we took and mismanaged (read stolen by the who is who) the minister for Finance is very direct and clear that the nation as a whole, poor, rich, old or young, thieves & innocents alike have to chip in that extra 10/-, or 20/- on a daily basis to meet our loan payments. And none is the wiser, the conversation is never ‘where is the money??’
Ni Gutêé!
